What You Give.
Not everyone who stays is staying because they truly value who you are. Some people stay because of convenience. Some stay because of the attention you give them. Some stay because of the help, opportunities, favors, or emotional support they receive. Others stay because they enjoy your presence but have no intention of building a deeper connection. This realization has made me reflect on the people in my life and the role I play in those relationships. I show up. I listen. I remember details. I celebrate birthdays. I help when I can. I try to add value and make people feel seen. Those are good qualities, but they also raise an important question: Do people appreciate me, or do they appreciate what I provide? The answer is not always obvious. So I carried out a test to initiate a little less attention and nurture. Give a little less.
